Seaside S’mores Weekend Event & Cook-Off at The Shores Resort & Spa Special Celebration for National S’mores Day Benefits Girl Scouts
Tuesday, Aug. 10, 2010 is National S’mores Day, and The Shores Resort & Spa – with its signature oceanside fire pits – is celebrating with the first-ever S’mores Weekend & Cook-Off event, Aug. 6-10, 2010. Credited as the originators of this favorite campfire treat, Girl Scouts and their families and friends can enjoy a weekend of fun activities, culminating with a s’mores cook-off contest for the most creative and tastiest s’more. A portion of the proceeds from the weekend will benefit the Girl Scouts of Citrus Council, which serves six Central Florida counties and more than 16,000 girls.
“Of the numerous guest amenities, nothing illustrates the resort’s playful nature more than the sweet, simple pleasure of our seaside S’Mores,” stated The Shores Resort & Spa General Manager David Rijos. “Inviting Girl Scouts and other guests to gather around our oceanside fire pits to enjoy an irresistible combination of salty sea breezes, crunchy graham crackers, toasty marshmallows, and warm, gooey chocolate is the perfect recipe for a great weekend.”
The weekend will kick off with a SWAP Party on Friday, Aug. 6 from 5 to 7:30 p.m., during which Girl Scouts from all over the state can make new friends as they share their pin collections with each other. On Saturday, Aug. 7, there will be a Campfire Sing-along from 8 to 9 p.m., with songs straight from the Girl Scout songbooks. The highlight of the weekend is the S’mores Cook-Off on Sunday, Aug. 8 from 3 to 5 p.m., where Girl Scouts, area residents and resort guests will form teams of four to compete for a panel of local celebrity judges. There is a $10 entry fee per team, and each team must provide the ingredients for their s’mores. The fire pits will be lit and ready for action at the resort.
In addition to the schedule of activities, the resort is offering a special rate starting at $99 per night for Girl Scouts, their families and friends. In addition, guests who stay three nights, will receive the fourth night FREE. Guests who don’t want to participate in the actual Sunday afternoon cook-off can still enjoy the tasty treat. S’mores Kits are available for just $10.
