ULYSSES VOYAGE
The Best in Greek Meze Cuisine

by Bonnie Carroll

For a totally fun evening out, or a venue where you and your family can celebrate an anniversary, Ulysses Voyage is the place. Located at The Grove, 6333 West 3rd Street in the Farmer’s Market, it is hands-down the best Greek food in Los Angeles.

The outdoor open patio area offers a wonderful view of visitors on their way to the shopping center, where a theatre, and charming park attracts tourists from around the world. The talented Greek musicians who play on the patio make you want to call to book a flight for Athens, and the restaurant servers are skilled at describing the menu items, and recommending wines to compliment them.

Ulysses serves a brunch on weekends that features a signature omelet and an artichoke egg dish that is a baked artichoke topped with sautéed spinach and a poached egg. The dinner menu offers all the divine Greek appetizers, including a spectacular “Saganaki” flaming cheese fired with Ouzo. Their stuffed grape leaves and three dip with pita bread are excellent starters, and the “avgolemono” chicken broth with rice, eggs and lemon soup is the best I’ve had yet. They offer a variety of pasta with seafood dishes that are tempting, and seafood entrees done “The Greek Way” with olive oil and lemon or capers, artichoke puree, and garlic.

I thoroughly enjoyed the lamb shank, served with tomato sauce, onions, bell peppers and cinnamon; served with Greek lemon potatoes and vegetables. The moussaka with a light béchamel sauce is also outstanding. Specials called “Mama’s Recipes” are authentic and prepared daily, and the Ulysses catering menu features a Greek Feast.
