"St. Patrick's Day is an enchanted time -- a day to begin transforming winter's dreams into summer's magic." Adrienne Cook

HAPPY ST. PATRICK'S DAY

Letter from the Publisher
March 2021

Bonnie Carroll

Dear Life Bites News Readers,

Celebrations of St. Patrick's Day, and all things Irish, including Parades and parties honoring the patron saint of Ireland may be on hold or handled differently this year due to the pandemic. This holiday is usually a highlight in major United States cities, as well as Dublin, Ireland on March 17th. Below please find a favorite St. Pat's Day recipe for corned beef and cabbage to enjoy at your 'wearing of the green' celebration home dinner. New York, Boston and Chicago usually feature great parades to celebrate this day but perhaps note this year! Chicago usually dyes the river green, but it has been frozen solid so who knows?
Our Chef/Hotel Profile this month is on the Villa Sassa Hotel & Spa in Ticino, Switzerland, where their innovatice spa and health treatments are renowned and guests come from throughout the world for their exceptional treatments and Gault & Millau 14 dinners overlooking Lake Locarno.
Lots of Valentine Celebration coverage honoring rose wine for the day of lovers included Margerum Wines, Foley Wines and so many more along with divine chocolates on the American Riviers. Look for a great Caviar Egg recipe with Margerum Wine story. The American Heart Association held a "Go Red" fundraiser on line and welcome donations.

January/February was usually the Santa Barbara International Film Festival, which will now take place in April. Oscar presentations to honor excellence in film in Hollywood will be covered in Tinsel Town Tidbits.

Check out celebrity photos and coverage of Golden Globes, upcoming April SBIFF and any pre-Oscar parties this year. Culinary coup features the latest in restaurant/chef news and St. Pat's story coverage for Santa Barbara. We have news on local travel health/beauty venues. Spa Baby takes a look at some amazing spa treatments for best skin care at home. Health Minded section features some supporting events for Alzheimers, American Heart Association and Breast Cancer, including the Barbara Ireland Walk/Run for Cancer updates.

See BookBites for some wonderful new reads. So many great new cookbooks coming out this year. Enjoy the recipes below to celebrate St. Pat's Day with your family at home. See fun story on my visit to the premiere Irish brew makers in Ireland and link to story coverage on some things Irish in Santa Barbara.

John Walsh, Voices of Erin 1910 (my grand uncle)

Enjoy a beautiful poem on Ireland by my grand uncle John Walsh in our BookBites section. John co-authored a book of poems while he was in the seminary, but later became a co-founder of the American Theatre Guild, and co-founder of the first Catholic Motion Picture Company in Hollywood, worked in New York as a playwright and Hollywood as a screen writer at MGM. Book "Voices of Erin".

Happy March birthday wishes to my son Michael, and friends Christine and  Rosemary Redlin. Hope you fish have a swimmingly fun and fantastic day!

Thank you for joining us this month, and we hope you enjoy our "It's nice to be Irish" issue. Airfares to the "Emerald Isle" are quite reasonable right now - check it out and check travel restrictions.

As things appear to be  improving with the pandemic we wish you happy travels in 2021. Join us next month for our news from the Travel & Advenrture Show in Los Angeles if it remains on the schedule, as well as news on Los Angeles Trave Show destinations and culinary treasures to enjoy. Please contact us with any questions regarding editorial requests or advertising rates. We appreciate your support.
