BOOKBITES . . . ASSOCIATION FOR WOMEN IN COMMUNICATION SANTA BARBARA
CELEBRATE BOOKS FOR BREAKFAST By Bonnie Carroll Members of the Association for Women in Communication Santa Barbara have enjoyed bringing some new authors to light at their Books for Breakfast meeting at Caje Coffee – Arlington location, 1316 State Street, a new and exciting outdoor coffee destination offering delicious designer coffee drinks. August Books for Breakfast featured “Ladies Get Paid” that included a lively discussion on excellent strategies to assist in getting the rewards and recognition you deserve, and as you can imagine the conversation was scintillating. The AWC-SB board of directors have done a marvelous job selecting books for these early morning gatherings and members are looking forward to similar gatherings in 2022. Lisa Osborn, President of the AWC-SB chapter and Carolyn Jabs, Past President have successfully led the charge for these great coffee discussions. Association for Women in Communication Santa Barbara Chapter is a national organization that champions the advancement of people across all communications disciplines by recognizing excellence, promoting leadership, and promoting its members at the forefront of community communications. "Ladies Who Lunch" a satirical taste of L.A. by Josef Woodard Enjoy Love, Lust and Lunch in La-la Land in the 1990s The adventures of a newly divorced woman navigating a maze of romantic, sexual and musical encounters with celebrities and socialites while experiencing some personal and natural disasters. It's fast, salty and wild, and reads like a screen play in that Woodard presents such amazing visuals with his brilliant words you actually see the characters and their famous surroundings. It's fun and delicious! Josef Woodard is a veteran cultural critic, who wrote for the Los Angeles Times for 35 years, has contributed to Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, DownBeat and many music magazines and has so far published two books, on jazz legends Charles Lloyd and Charlie Haden, respectively. He is also a musician, a guitarist, songwriter and head of the Household Ink Records lable. This is Josef Woodard's first novel. www.ladieswholunch.me. ___________________________________________________________ Publisher's Good Read . . . FOUR SEASONS AT ANGELINO'S
BY Caroline McBride This is a fast and fun read, especially for people who have lived and worked in the Hollywood arena and frequented the 'to be seen in' hot spots in and around that area. Caroline's characters jump out and charm or repulse you and scene's she creates are some I've actually encountered myself over the years. Quick and fun read. Great book for travel reading or on the beach. ___________________________________________________________________ Bobby Joy Dawson is a vivacious woman, mother, wife and neighbor from Beverly Hills who released her first book last year and who I gave best of to for 2020. The book is a fun journal of her life as a chic shop owner in Beverly Hills who specialized in eye brows and worked with ordinary women like me as well as major celebrities like Dolly Parton and special women who ran charities devoted to helping kids in distress like Suzanne Geimer founder of Speacial Angel, Inc. I have always enjoyed Bobby and her husband and appreciate her passion for the best in life, her sense for being a good American and her contageous sense of humor. So glad to know her and so happy to be able to spread the word about her adorable and fun loving history on the world of eye brows. ____________________________________________ COOKING BOOK BITES FOR FALL
