President Biden Efforts Avert Amtrak  Strike Action

It took 20 hours of negotiation talks between freight rail companies and unions to reach a tentative agreement to avert a strike that would have dramatically affected Amtrak's long-distance service.

"The tentative agreement reached was an important win for our economy and the American people," said President Joe Biden in a statement released early Thursday morning.1 "It is a win for tens of thousands of rail workers who worked tirelessly through the pandemic to ensure that America’s families and communities got deliveries of what have kept us going during these difficult years."

Amtrak had planned to cancel some national routes in preparation for the strike, with cancellations intended to begin Thursday, Sept. 15 with no finish indicated. Amtrak passenger trains operate on many of the same railway tracks as freight trains and would have been affected.

Amtrak has halted its nationwide shutdowns as a result of this agreement. "Amtrak is working to quickly restore canceled trains and reaching out directly to impacted customers to accommodate on first available departures," announced Amtrak following the White House shared negotiations were underway.

Under the new contracts, all rail employees receive a 24-percent wage increase from 2020 to 2024, with an average payout of $11,000 upon ratification."These rail workers will get better pay, improved working conditions, and peace of mind around their health care costs: all hard-earned," said President Biden. "The agreement is also a victory for railway companies who will be able to retain and recruit more workers for an industry that will continue to be part of the backbone of the American economy for decades to come."

Union members will need to cast a ratification vote before it can be finalized. Should the vote fail, everyone involved has agreed to a weeks-long perios to prevent an immediate shutdown of railway services. For updates and information see @AmtrakAlerts on twitter.

PIRELLI EQUIPS THE ASTON MARTIN DBX707: THE MOST POWERFUL LUXURY SUV IN THE WORLD A NEW P ZERO TIRE IS BORN FOR SPORTING PERFORMANCE ALONGSIDE A SCORPION ZERO ALL SEASONFOR USE ALL YEAR ROUND

High performance, control and comfort are the main characteristics that bind the new Aston Martin DBX707 - the most powerful luxury SUV in the world, as well as the most powerful version of the British manufacturer's SUV - to the Pirelli P ZERO tires. Specially developed for this car, these tires highlight Pirelli’s focus on the high value segment.

P ZERO AND SCORPION TIRES, MADE TO MEASURE The 707 horsepower and 900 Nm of torque generated by the Aston Martin DBX707’s engine make this luxury SUV the most powerful of its kind in the world. In order to cope with these extremely high levels of performance, Pirelli’s engineers have created new tailor-made tires for it, on top of the 22-inch tire already made for the DBX: P ZERO in 285/35R23 size at the front and 325/30R23 for the rear.

These P ZERO tires benefit from a compound that’s derived from the Aston Martin’s famed grand touring models in order to enhance the car’s performance as much as possible, with greater rigidity in the sidewall thanks to a specific geometry in the canvas that makes up the structure of the tire. The considerable size of this tire allows for a more direct steering response and increased cornering speeds on track.

For those wanting a solution that they can use all year on multiple road surfaces – dry, wet or light snow – the SCORPION ZERO ALL SEASON is also available (in two sizes) complete with its distinctive A8A marking, which identifies these tires as having been specially made for the Aston Martin DBX. SILENT TIRES WITH MAXIMUM COMFORT To ensure that driver comfort is as impressive as performance, these tires are equipped with PNCS (Pirelli Noise Cancelling System) in the front tire size, which are designed for road noise to be reduced. The PNCS technology is made up of a sound-absorbing material placed within the tire that is engineered to soak up all the vibrations that would otherwise be transmitted into the cabin, resulting in the rolling noise from the tires being reduced.

MADE IN ITALY WITH MIRS TECHNOLOGY The tires for the Aston Martin DBX707 are made in Pirelli’s Settimo Torinese factory, just on the outskirts of Turin, using the robots from Pirelli’s MIRS system (Modular Integrated Robot System) and the most advanced technology dedicated to the production of ultra-high performance road car tires. PIRELLI AND ASTON MARTIN The collaboration between these two historic automotive icons has grown with the passage of time. The new DBX707, which comes exclusively with Pirelli tires, expands Aston Martin’s range of Pirelli-equipped cars, including the DBX, DBS, and Vantage models.
