THE JOHAMMER J1, AUSTRIA'S GEM The Johammer J1, which bears an undeniable resemblance to the Imperial speeder bikes in Return of the Jedi, is hardly the first battery-powered motorbike, but it is among the few capable of travelling 200km (124 miles) on a single charge. Through a partnership with the area’s popular PortAventura theme park and the park’s parent company, Investindustrial, Ferrari Land will be located on a more than 18-acre lot within PortAventura. The new section of the park will feature Ferrari-themed roller coasters, driving experiences and simulators, and other thrill rides, including what is expected to be Europe’s highest and fastest vertical accelerator—a sort of reverse bungee-jump apparatus that slings riders hundreds of feet into the air. The park will also include a 250-room Ferrari-themed hotel, as well as restaurants and other exhibits related to the Prancing Horse. Completion of the park is expected to cost upwards of $138 million. It is slated to open in 2016. (www.portaventura.co.uk) __________________________________________________________________
