KIDS KALEIDOSCOPE
MOON OVER SANTA BARBARA
by Cody Chandler Hilton
Families and groups all showed up to watch the clouds clear to see the lunar eclipse of the moon. A group from the Santa Barbara Astronomical Unit, a club on astronomy, set up telescopes at a park, where a big crowd of people came to view this special event. It was really amazing to see.
A total eclipse is when the moon passes through the earth's shadow and when the sun, earth and moon are almost exactly lined up with the earth in the center. The last total lunar eclipse visible took place in 2007, and the next one is not due until December 2010.
