LA MAISON D'ESTOURNEL OPENS IN MEDOC REGION La Maison d'Estournel opened in Bordeaux's Medoc region in August in the former home of Louis Gaspard d'Estournel, the 18th-century vintner behind the Cos d'Estournel vineyard. The 14-room property is located on the vineyard, a short walk away from hotelier Michel Reybier's private family home, La Chartreuse de Cos d'Estournel, which is available exclusively for buyouts. Reybier is the owner of La Reserve hotel group. Alex Michaelis of Soho House designed the guestrooms, which are spread across two floors. Design features include oak plank floors, floral-print linen drapes, velvet-upholstered furniture and freestanding bathtubs. Many of the rooms have terraces overlooking the five-acre grounds, and common spaces include a library, tasting room, vegetable garden and kitchen pantry that guests are free to raid. Off-site activities include fishing, golf, bicycling, picnicking and wine tasting. La Reserve will also be opening a property in Zurich, taking over the Eden au Lac hotel in November. The four-story, 40 room property is undergoing an extensive two-year renovation by French designer Philippe Starck. The hotel, located in a landmark building that is more than a century old, will feature views of Lake Zurich, a new restaurant and a rooftop bar.
